About an hour after it began the parade comes to an
end as a local bagpipe ensemble fills the air with Irish good
will.
Contrary to general belief, bagpipes didn't originate
in Ireland. In ancient times they played a more ominous role
as
instruments for psychological warfare by the Roman
legions. Imagine the terror among a village populace as
they discerned the growing sounds of approaching
bagpipes--a signal that the town was about to be invaded by
the mightiest army in the world.
That sound caused many town defendants to flee their
posts, rather than face certain slaughter!
End of series.
