When built around 1860, the Blue Tent ditch and flume was 30 miles long. It was eight feet wide on top, six feet wide on the bottom and four feet deep. Part of it was a tunnel cut through 1000 feet of granite. It carried water from the South Yuba River to the Blue Tent Mine.
