Here are the "Last of the Last," the final four views
of the 2012 Retrospective.
An autumn drive around this part of the Catskills
wouldn't be complete without a brief climb above the Village of
Liberty,
to its picturesque cemetery. Much of the site is in
disrepair, with its crumbling headstones and monuments. But there
still
is a permanent sense of tranquility, not because its
residents are lifeless, but because of its so-near, yet remote
location.
This decent-sized burial ground sits atop a hill where,
spread below it lies Liberty, a community that sometimes seems to
be clinging to its past glory days as a well-known
resort area. Today it's a tiny industrial hub that subsists on an
even
tinier budget. Jobs are scarce, and so are the
opportunities for later growth. Yet there is a degree of contentment
as,
somehow the village fulfills its
civic responsibilities, much like that of a big city. And life goes
on...
Here we see part of the soaring vista of the
cemetery.
