I discovered the coolest app for those of you using the Google Chrome browser.  It's an interactive tour of the Milky Way galaxy in which you can see the relationship of our solar system to nearby stars, and beyond.  I think it only works in Google Chrome, though.

The attached pic was created from two screen grabs from the program, and (here's the disclamer) it has some flaws as a stereo picture.  For example, you cannot fuse the faint background stars (don't even try).  The graphics move continuously, so I had to grab them on the fly.
This view is sun-centered, so it shows the relationship of some stars in the "neighborhood".

At any rate, if you're using Google Chrome, it's fun to play with (and educational, too).
