Royal Gorge?s nearly 3000 acres was recently slated for a massive development comprising 950 residential units including fractional ownership and 85,000 sf of commercial. The Truckee Donner Land Trust is partnering with The Trust for Public Land, the Northern Sierra Partnership, Sugar Bowl, USFS, Serene Lakes, and others to acquire the property given Royal Gorge defaulted on their $16.7M loan. This land combined with public forest lands will ensure preservation of over 6000 acres of contiguous open space on the summit. The Royal Gorge cross-country ski area, the largest in North America, will be operated by Sugar Bowl.
