Keep in mind, the red/blue glasses do not work well unless the image was formatted for those glasses. The green component needs to be removed. SPM can do this. When the pic is formatted for those glasses in SPM, the ghosting is very negligible or non-existant. ...These glasses do not work for color. ...only monochrome. The ghosting in high contrast images can be eliminated.Ray --- On Fri, 4/26/13, Greg Hjellen <greghj(-at-)yahoo.com> wrote: From: Greg Hjellen <greghj(-at-)yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [3dXchange] Ray / Re: [Anaglyphs] spring is finally here!/ Ray/Larry To: "3D-StereoviewXchange(-at-)yahoogroups.com" <3D-StereoviewXchange(-at-)yahoogroups.com> Date: Friday, April 26, 2013,

You have a good question!!! I don't have the answer, but I bet there are folks in this group with a lot of good info. I personally have 2 red/cyan and 2 red/blue glasses that I use (each different!), though my favorites are ANA-CLASSICs from 3Dstereo.com. I think a "good" anaglyph with the right combination of contrasts, brightness, and modest
deviation often views OK with any of my glasses. I use SPM to make my anaglyphs, and in my imperfect/problem anaglyphs (most all of them!) with highly-contrasting areas (e.g., light objects on a dark
background) too much deviation, etc, I can sometimes get improvement using SPM's ghost-reduced anaglyph. Sometimes I can get improvement in my "problem" anaglyphs by changing the brightness/contrast/colors in troublesome regions in the original pair, before forming the anaglyph. I'd think fine-tuning the anaglyph basis colors as part of ghost treatment can make them worse for some members of the viewing audience. Of course, besides glasses, another very BIG variable is calibration of computer/display and software being used! Greg

Thanks for your reply, Larry. I think that at least the discussion should continue about this matter. Maybe it already has been discussed before my arrival on the scene, but I do not remember this being talked about even back when I was a "lurker". My opinion is that red/blue glasses are by far superior for viewing monochrome images. I bought four plastic pair for seven bucks. Ghosting can be completely eliminated. I am guessing that red/cyan glasses were introduced as a compromise to be able to view color anaglyphs. Red/cyan partially works for monochrome and partially color, but not totally. That makes sense because red/blue are both additive primary colors. Red/cyan are half additive and half subtractive primary color glasses, allowing color, albeit degraded color. It is an
imperfect compromise. In the past, I have avoided posting several anaglyph images in which the ghosting could not be removed. I only posted those pics in the 3d-exchange group as a cross-view. A good monochrome version using red/blue glasses would have been easy to post in the anaglyph group. I would rather post a good monochrome version over a bad color version. Judging by the meager response on this topic, it looks like most would rather not talk about it. In my opinion, we should have two pairs of glasses, one for color, and one for monochrome. We could specify which pair to use. --- On Thu, 4/25/13, Larry Robert Fischer <lrfbob(-at-)comcast.net> wrote: From:

Ray, I love TTW effect and I see no ghosting with one of my glasses but see
it with another pair of glasses I have. I think their should be a standardized
set of glasses for anaglyphs. I think you are on to something here. I
prefer glasses I got from Michael Jackson?s ?This Is It.? They are red blue
glasses and show little ghosting on the images I view. I think someone in Japan
makes similar glasses that are made out of plastic. Maybe someone should make a
standard for anaglyph glasses so we all view the same thing.

In this image, I was experimenting with dealing with
ghosting. I learned a few things, but the final image sure looks different
from "normal" anaglyphs. ...Very magenta. Please be frank on commenting. I
am not very good at this yet. I see very little ghosting on my monitor,
but maybe that is not the case on your equipment.
Thanks for looking
