Seattle, WA, is located
between the saltwater Puget Sound (an arm of the Pacific Ocean) to the west and Lake Washington to the east. Boats can travel between these two bodies of water via the Washington
Ship Canal and the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. This shot shows boats in the large lock (which measures 80 feet by 825 feet), on their way to Lake Washington. Much of the facility still looks like it did back in 1917.
