Thanks Marshall. That "smudge-like object" is the reflection from the chrome which is different for each chip.
If anyone is interested, this is a nearly identical capture except using the 3" stereo base of the W1 instead of doing a cha cha in 2D mode, plus I got closer since I was using the W1's small stereo base. I didn't get as much of the entrance in this version because I got closer and there is less depth but I believe the depth is acceptable for the composition. You will see there is still a difference in the reflection in that same spot of chrome albeit a bit less distracting.
