After descending the heights of
Little Round Top we make our way to the Devils Den, an assortment of huge
boulders
that provided cover for
Confederate sharpshooters. The targets for these snipers were often the
Union troops amassed on
Little Round Top and the
vicinity.
We use caution in scurrying on
those rocks, for there are steep and narrow crevasses that could easily end the
life of
anyone unfortunate enough to
fall into. It makes me imagine how scary it must have been for Rebel
soldiers to both risk
being shot by Federal troops, or by falling into a
crevasse.
