Within a short time before the
end of the current session of the New York State Legislature a mass rally
was hastily organized to draw attention
to the growing threat of
legalizing hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking" as it's commonly
known. This is a drilling process in which toxic chemical-
laden water is forced
underground under high pressure. This causes bedrock to shatter, releasing
various carbon fuels, most notably natural
gas.
There have been numerous
problems occurring in other areas of the United States including the pollution
of drinking water, gas ignitions,
toxic spillage, and
more. That rally was to get New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo and our
legislators to permanently ban the practice.
I was pleasantly surprised to
see that the charted bus from the town of Liberty to Albany, the state capital
was nearly full.
