Former congressman, Maurice
Hinchey strongly denounces the greedy oil and gas industries that may, if they
get their way ruin our natural environment, just for the sake
of corporate
profits.
I've met the congressman on
several occasions. Hinchey served in the House of Representatives
for twenty years and was a popular champion of working people
and the poor. He nearly
lost his final election bid due to huge corporate cash donations to
his opponent. While serving his final term Hinchey contracted cancer
and opted not to run again
once his term
ended.
After the 2010 U.S. census, New
York State lost one representative due to an overall lower population
count. Hinchey's district was combined with a larger,
more conservative one, and the
man whom Hinchey's party chose to run was defeated by a well-financed,
pro-corporate right-winger.
Fortunately for Hinchey it
appears that his cancer treatments were successful, owing to his strong, booming
voice at the rally.
