Hi, I agree for the head, not for the background (up of the picture), like the positive parallax is too much for narrow eyes space. Need to be blurred or replace or eliminate.
I made a very quick correcting with Photoshop to remove some shadow and exaggerate positive parallax on background.
I prefer the pop-up of the first one. A 3 cm base is OK for +/- 40 cm distance, so your subject at +/-25 cm was too narrow, will need a stereobase of 1.5 cm or use of a close-up lens on the two lenses but don't put back the eagle head like on the first too the positive parallax is already too big and don't need to be exaggerate anymore.
With use of a convergent close-up lens on the two lenses of the camera, the background of course will be much more over maximum positive parallax for small eyes base and will need to be eliminate or replace.

Let me show you this version that is from a bit further distance ( the bird turned its head).
On this shot the 3 Cm stereo base is almost correct or acceptable, i think.
What do you think?

Shahrokh.
