Red/cyan are the most use because glasses less expensive than others. 
I built many anaglyph type, yellow/red, blue/green, blue/cyan... magenta/cyan for use of red/cyan glasses but giving less ghosting on 2D-TV... because like use of two primaries colors give a third dominate color " blue here" making low contrast = low ghosting.
It is the same with red/green making yellow dominate. But one is the best for ink (sous tractive synthesis) and the other for light (positive synthesis)
Red/green permit to see one color, the blue... and red/blue permit to see the green.
I made also the opposite of Dubois type  (having yellow-green dominate) for red/cyan, mine have Violette dominate !

Very well done and, I appreciate the paper behind.  Wow... for the details.
Regarding anaglyph their is several way to keep a color not too fare the original same as with color correcting. There is not only red/cyan, but yellow/blue and magenta/green !
