The save formats offered by SPM are...
JPEG File
BMP File
JPS Stereo File
STJ Stereo File
PNG File
TIFF File
GIF file
It was a toss up between TIFF and BMP and since our "Group Founder" uses BMP, that is what swayed me to use that format.
Sometime in the past I have read about most of the formats in an effort to better understand the differences between them and to understand the difference between "Lossy" and "Lossless"(important for everyone to understand). I have also experimented with saving the same file with some of these most common lossless formats to see the resulting difference in file size. There was some small differences between some of them but nothing major in my opinion. All that has been a while ago and I've forgotten much of the details now but I retained the major gist of what it's about. The main purpose is to not loose the file data needed to retain the quality of the file before saving the final format in JPEG. BMP does this since it's a lossless format and I doubt if anyone could tell the difference with the naked eye between a saved BMP and TIFF. TIFF is also a lossless format, so if you think somehow TIFF is that more superior to BMP or makes that much of a difference, I will start saving in TIFF between processes until ready for the final save in JPEG. The only impact I suspect it could have is possibly a tiny bit more space in SPM's buffer while processing.

Brian

That?s perhaps the worst choice. How about TIF, PNG or JPEG 2000?

Thanks Wojtek. I use BMP format because you can not use PSD files in StereoPhoto Maker. I don't know why the developer did not allow this unless it's some kind of copyright issue.
