Did some test shots on my phone with an app called Google Camera. One of the modes is Blur. When you take a shot in this mode, it prompts you to keep the image centered and raise the phone. It tells you if you screwed it up. No side to side movement is allowed.

What it creates is a 2D image and a depth map that can be opened in the latest SPM.

It does introduce some introduce some interesting artifacts into the stereo image.
