After drowning my old phone on a hike, I had to replace it. The new one has a 16 mp camera. Takes some nice photos. Falls down in low light, though.
The intended use for the Blur function was to be able to restrict the depth of field to blur backgrounds. After taking the photo you can adjust the level of blur, and pick the area in the photo you want to be in focus. Not perfect, but useful.
SPM just takes advantage of having a built-in depth map for the photo.

Yes, I see what you mean Art.  Maybe a combination of Google Camera and SPM's cloning tool to touch up some things might improve the final processing.  Interesting to know about these types of apps! 

I still don't own a cell or I-phone.  If I hiked like you I'm sure I would need one.  ; )
