While in
Annapolis, I took a few shots of some attractive store front displays.
This one seemed appropriate for this time of year.
I pressed
the camera lens against the store window pane. I didn't look through
the viewfinder, but just pushed the shutter half way to auto-focus and
then all the way down to take the picture. By checking the results
immediately after, (I love digital cameras), I discovered with this
method, it was easy to have the camera tilted unless after positioning
the camera, you look at it while composing the shot and try to judge
it's levelness. After the first picture, I just moved the camera
horizontally a bit for the second shot.
In this case the camera
was about waist high which makes it less obvious to anyone around what
you're doing and is much easier to accomplish physically. Pressing the
lens flat against the store window glass helps to minimize other light
sources from getting to the lens or bouncing off the surround glass pane
that may cause problems such as glare. It was nighttime, but the well
lit store display provided plenty of light for the shot.
