A view of train tracks from, "High Bridge Rd" in Millington, MD where I was raised.  This is where we used to put pennies on the track and the weight of the train passing by at night would flatten them out to about the size of a nickle or quarter.  The next day you would retrieve them, then drill a hole near the edge of the flattened coin and attach a small sized chain to fashion a necklace.

The Eastern Shore of of Maryland is mostly flat farmland, so this little hill was quite unusual and was within walking distance from my home.  The small narrow bridge I stood on to capture this scene is only wide enough for one car to pass at a time.  I used to haul my red wagon up to this spot on High Bridge Road and coast to the bottom of the hill when I was a boy.  That was the closest I could come to a go-cart which I dearly dreamed of having one day.

Just off the side of the road (now undetectable with overgrowth) was an area we called, "the sandpit" since it had dunes of white sand mixed in some areas with light brown sand.  We could pick Black Berries there and sell quart boxes of them to local residents.  That was the only money I could make aside from picking up coke bottles along the side of the road which were good for 2 cents apiece and occasionally shining my fathers shoes for a quarter if my parents were planning a night out somewhere.
