Thank you John and Duke, for your comments.

John,
The original image background was unfocused (shallow DOF) which would not have been bad except there were trees with varying degrees of light penetration which made the image background a little distracting.  I was thinking I could blur the background further to reduce the distraction, or darken with a vignette, or both.  I chose both.  Using Photoshop, I selected the headstone and inversed the selection.  I added Gaussian Blur and even some Surface blur.  I also added a vignette but further added more darkness manually.  The headstone was protected by the inverse selection so only the outside got the treatment.  Then I used a mask which allowed me to remove the treatment where I wanted with a gradient tool which tapered the blur and darkness from the bottom of the image to the top by using the colors White or Black which either conceals or reveals the bottom layer.  This gave the gradual fading of the effect into the distance.  I could further control how much of the background blur and darkness was shown by using the layer opacity adjustment.

Cheers,
Brian

I was drawn to this headstone because of the decoration of green and red that was placed there.

I could not make out what was written on the headstone.  One could probably change the lighting and contrast in software to better determine the letters and numbers.
