In 1925 Charlie Chaplin made a movie called ?Gold Rush.? The gist of the movie was about miners in the Klondike in 1898. The Palisades at Sugar Bowl Ski Area was the ?stand-in? for the Chilcoot Pass over which miners had to go to get to the Klondike riches. 600 extras were hired in Sacramento and taken by train to Donner Summit to re-enact that episode. In the last 90 years, a lot of trees have grown and nearly block the view.A friend and I decided to hike up and see what it was like. One word ? STEEP.Art
