It?s not Valentine?s Day, but I came across this Sierra Flat-stemmed onion (Alium platycaule). They like rocky volcanic soil and appear soon after snowmelt. This one wasn?t blooming yet, but will soon. Nice purple/pink flowers. The onions are marble-sized, and taste pretty good. They are definitely NOT a threatened species. Some slopes will have hundreds of them.
