I can't speak for others, but I can for me.
On the occasions when Marshall undertook to critique my efforts
(including through my private Email, unsolicited)
nature of the critique, but the number of times that he gave the same
type of critique that I found to be particularly tiresome. I
acknowledged the validity of his points and expressed to him the
reasons for my choices, and I would have thought that should have
been enough to resolve the matter. I took offense to the fact that
he did not acknowledge and respect my points, as indicated by his
persistence, yet apparently expected me to acknowledge and respect
his.
As for "showing our offence by not commenting on his pictures", I
have an observation to make. Many times people who are highly and/or
frequently critical of others' work are themselves the least able to
accept criticism themselves, and are the quickest to take offense. I
think it is possible that the same people whom Marshall claims took
offense did not comment on his works because: a) they did not care to
touch off a possible bristly response from him, or; b) simply had
nothing to offer by way of comment. In any event, I seriously doubt
that they chose not to comment on his work simply to get back at
him. In general, I have not found the members of this group to be
that petty.
It's a shame that he felt he had to leave the group. Likewise it is
a shame that others have left the group who have expressed
frustration in their dealings with him. You said it best, Shahrokh,
when you said that we should be more patient with "each other".
In any event, he has made many valuable contributions to the group,
and I'm sure he will be missed. I wish him well.
Cheers,
