You are probably right, but I often make phantograms that are
spontaneous, like if I see an isolated object in a natural setting. I'm
not bothered if the resulting surface is only mostly flat and smooth,
as long as I can avoid wv. The illusion of a patch of grass with
something or someone standing on it is more interesting to me than a
flat white piece of paper. I'm not even too bothered if the surface is
a little below the window. It just looks like a hole in the monitor or
paper to me.
I'd like to visit the Holodeck, though. The ultimate 3D : )

I always thought that the surface of a phantogram should be perfectly flat and smooth. Isn't the idea to have something look as if it is sitting on the flat surface of your monitor (or surface of a table if it's printed)?Duke
