The ultimate team synch solution: An audible timer! (A rock thrown upwards might just fall on your camera or on someone's head, LOL).

He, he. I didn't mean "Ready, aim, fire," wouldn't work, just thought some situations might be humorous. But, a dropped rock gives better sync, because the person calling the cadence will usually go first, whereas with an independent event (rock striking ground), both persons see it occur simultaneously and react with closer timing.

And yes, it is the missing info that does most of the damage with non-equidistant shots. It leads to those strange shots where close things will line up horizontally, top and bottom, but far away stuff will not, much like the stereo pairs taken at different elevations (also not correctable) .

An extreme example; a child with a beach ball held out toward you. You can see the child's eyes over the top of the ball. You step to the right and also forward for the second shot...the child's eyes are no longer visible over the top of the ball. Hmmm. Hard to fix.

You may be right about the perspective error because there will be different information on a pic that was taken closer to the subject.
But still: Ready, Aim, Fire will work with a little practice LOL

As you say, if the base is 10 feet (200 to 300 feet to the near point), then a foot or two is not greatly significant.

But you are absolutely wrong about it being a magnification error. It is NOT a magnification type error, it is a perspective error, and that is totally not correctable. If you don't believe it, I'll send you a pair to try and correct.

When shooting with a wide stereo base like 10 ft, the distance from each camera to the subject can vary several feet without significant errors. And even if there was a perceptible error, it would be in magnification which is easily corrected.

Funny. That would work good in, say, a theater ;-o).

A more traditional way is for one person to drop something, like a wallet or spare camera ;-), and when it hits the ground they both trip their camera shutter. You didn't mention that tripods should be used and the backs of the cameras must be aligned (sight along the backs) with each other to ensure that both are equidistant from the subject. Failure to take the two shots equidistant results in one of the two types of un-correctable errors that no software can repair.

One way to synch two remote cameras is to take another person along. Both of you place a target object in the scene in the middle of the viewer. Then you yell out: Ready, Aim, Fire!!
Of course, you have to be within hearing distance LOL!
