The "infinity" separation is 64mm on my 17 inch
computer monitor and that is about as much as humans
can fuse without diverging their eyes. On a bigger
screen the separation may be more (depending on the
pixel setting). Excess separation can always be
handled by moving away from the computer monitor but
that is a pain and most people cannot be bothered.
Normally for forest macro work I set the background at
no more than twice the distance to the subject, to
avoid the wide infinity separation effect, but on this
day I wanted to be a pest. The background usually is
too far away, so I often change it to something like a
log of wood, artfully moved into place for the job. I
actually like deep stereo, but when the distance goes
out of focus (as here) it becomes a bit pointless.
I hate rules, but the infinity separation rule is a
"must do". 64mm is the limit for anaglyphs, but for
parallel pairs separation must be much less (which is
where the 1.2mm MAOFD on 35mm format comes in).
