Yes John, I've had a little practice with them.  This was when I first tried using my new zoom lens though and because of the DOF I had to try and paint out the unfocused branches in the background.  Anaglyphs don't normally take kindly to our of focus objects, even in the background.  Sometimes however, you can make the entire background fuzzy or out of focus if it doesn't distract the viewer's attention.
