I have been sailing since grade school. There are few things I like to do more. For years I have sailed with the schooners in July in what used to be a race, but is now called a parade. They all gather in Rockland Harbor and sail in circles passing crowds of people perched on the Rockland lighthouse and mile-long granite breakwater. I didn't put my boat in this year but we sailed my friend's instead. Last year the wind was hard and steady out of the southwest. We had my boat and I was much more comfortable getting up close to these beauties. They we all heeling over like I had never seen before. I had only one camera. This year the wind was light and variable generally out of the northwest. Not the best day for large vessels. But I had two cameras. With someone else sailing, I was not unhappy keeping our distance...but it made for more difficult shots. I set my camera to my home-made rig's greatest separation (2 feet) and tried to make do.Some finished products were taken out of the middle of the actual shot and as you all know that compromises the stereo effect. These are great boats to see under sail. The sails are so large it looks like they are moving in slow motion. Obviously I shot some smaller boats too...I couldn't resist a good angle. Hope you enjoy.
