Thank you Dariush.
Each year the state of Maryland (where I live) has a
festival (outdoor event on weekends) for a few months.
Other areas of the country also have this event. I've seen other
members post pictures of their "Renaissance Festival" in our group and
on their web sites.
This was voted the best outdoor event in Maryland quite a while
ago. Since then they have established a permanent area that
houses the event each year in Crownsville, Maryland (near
Annapolis). Of course the theme is the Renaissance period.
There is a fee to attend and the event provides food, games, plays,
comedy skits, sword swallowing, music, art, crafts, jousting, Knights
competing before the "King and Queen" (that's where this picture was
taken) and interaction with local theater artists.
Most of the festival is contained within a wooded area. The
people are encouraged to dress in period clothing and naturally the
people working there dress, talk, and act the part. Many local
theater actors participate to help make the experience more authentic
and it's quite easy for one to "escape" for a period of time into a
fantasy usually only observed through film.
They will change many of the entertaining "acts" throughout the
time the festival continues, and many people will attend the festival
several times in the months it continues.
As you might suspect, when I walk around there with a DSLR Twin
Rig around my neck, it draws much attention so I spent a good deal of
time talking to people and other photographers about stereo
photography.
This year I attended the festival only to take 3D pictures.
As you might expect, it provides a great opportunity to grab unusual
and interesting pictures as well as socializing with others (something
I need a lot of practice doing).
Cheers,
Brian
