The one on the right looks as if she's trying to pass for a female (from what can be seen) which would lend credence to your transsexual claim, however the one on the left has the typical Drag Queen appearance which is usually meant to be exaggerated and not to pass as female but to put on a female persona.
 
American drag queen RuPaul once said "I do not impersonate females! How many women do you know who wear seven-inch heels, four-foot wigs, and skintight dresses?" He also said, "I don't dress like a woman; I dress like a drag queen!".
 
The term drag queen usually refers to people who dress in drag for the purpose of performing, whether singing or lip-synching, dancing, participating in events such as gay pride parades, drag pageants, or at venues such as cabarets and discotheques.
 
Since Dariush mentioned this photo was taken at "some sort of gay carnival", this terminology seemed quite appropriate.

The difference between a drag queen and a transsexual is that a drag queen is a male who is happy with being male and who is comfortable in the male general identity but they enjoy putting on a female persona and identity for fun or entertainment purposes. They don't want to be a woman medically, socially, and legally 24-7 though.

You are right Dan, they are simply south american transsexual prostitutes that start their "work" at mid-night on the Roman Consolar Roads as Via Appia, Via Salaria or Via Flaminia till five o'clock in the morning! Very often they are subject of arrest and expulsion but they come back again and re-start again till the next arrest and expulsion!

I met them walking down at Via Cavour in Rome near my home! Some sort of Gay Carnival even if they are noy only gay but much more than that..they are bi-sex prostitues! I like their exasperate taste for dressing and make-up!
