Continuation of the "well" series...
On a waterfront property (which mine is), the side next to the water is
known as the "front" of the house. I was always used to the road side
being the front of a house.
Jake, my well driller came by initially to check out my property, taking
measurements to determine the most feasible spot for the new well. It
could not be within 50 feet of a septic system. He asked where my property
lines were and since my yard had grown toward the road about 3 yards over the
years he asked if I had anything showing the topography of the place. I
actually had several copies of papers and lent him a copy. We also went
into my basement to determine access to my plumbing.
After the county gave us a variance he stopped by to mark the spot (15
foot from my house) and between my cedar and dogwood trees. He warned me
that they may have to trim some branches because of the 30 foot drilling tower
he uses. The tower is actually raised up while connected to the back
of a truck. Getting the water was more important than the tree
branches. He marked the spot with a small white flag barely
detectible in my image. I believe the county was supposed to come
by and check out the spot. They didn't need me but I never knew if or when
the county came by.
