New water tank installed. Again, please excuse the dark shadows
caused by the flash.
The large rubber pipe and wires that were hanging down in the
previous post are now connected to the new water tank. The white pipe is
CPVC (plastic) instead of copper. I hope to have all my copper
pipes replaced this week by a master plumber who was referred and gave me the
lowest price estimate. The plumber working for the drill company gave me an
estimate when he was there but he wanted to just cut the pipes off in the
basement instead of connecting cpvc all the way into the upstairs. Even
his boss said his estimate seemed to high.
The guy I'm going with will do the complete job for $700 less! I'm
having the pipe turn-off valves to the washer (which are at floor level)
extended above the washer. The washer needs a "trap" as well and the drain
portion extended higher. Presently, the washer drains to a "French drain"
(stones underground). I've seen water coming to the surface and even dug
it up once to fix it. He will connect it to my septic system
instead.
These days, the water pump is an impeller mounted inside the well pipe with
electrical connection to the tank (small gray box in the photo). This
means no pump noise from inside the house. I told the drill owner that I
used to depend on that sound to know how much my pump was working. For
instance, if it never stopped running, I knew I had a leak some place. He
told me that some old folks have a light connected to the pump which tells them
when it's running and when it isn't.
