By my count Sullivan County has three exact-replica Nineteenth Century covered bridges.  These
spans provided protection from the icy and wet conditions that confronted wagoners attempting
to tote their wares across the waterways.
 
This one posted is located just outside the tiny hamlet of Lew Beach.  The place is known
as the former home of Irving Berlin, the creator of many popular movie show tunes, including
"White Christmas."
 
The hamlet doesn't get its name from a nearby beach, but rather from its founder, Lew Beach.
