As you know, Port-au-Prince the capital of Haiti has been struck by a devastating earthquake.
This country, one of the poorest in the world, is once again facing another blow of the fate with countless casualties.
I was there last May and have taken this picture of the "Marron Inconnu" statue with the presidential palace in the background.
The "Marron Inconnu" or "Nég' mawon" symbolize a slave that has freed himself from slavery (a piece of broken chain can be seen attached to his left ankle) and calling for the uprising of the other slaves.
You can compare the aspect of the Presidential Palace in my picture and what you can see now in the news after the earthquake...
