When the name, Woodstock, New
York is mentioned it immediately brings to mind the famous rock concert of
1969. However, that is a
misnomer because the concert was actually held in
Bethel, NY, since the Village of Woodstock refused to allow
the
event to take place there. Since all the concert
promotional literature had already been distributed bearing the Woodstock
name, the producers decided to retain the Woodstock name, and the rest is
history.
Although Woodstock, NY rejected the concert
venue, that hasn't stopped today's merchants of the town from
capitalizing on the name and fame
of the legendary event. Today the village has many
stores with merchandise bearing the logo of the concert. As I learned from
talking
to some of those dealers, they had no idea that the
concert had been held elsewhere--or so they claimed.
On a very hot day this past April my wife and I visited
the village of Woodstock, and of course I brought along my Fuji W1. As
we
exited our parking area this beautiful specimen was
standing nearby in a wooded area. At first I wasn't going to raise the
camera because
usually, when I do so, wildlife just scurries away, but
this time, Bambi hung around long enough for me to grab this telephoto
shot.
