Sure enough, a group of Hasidic Jews arrived lakeside to
indulge in some water activities. This ancient sect, the
most orthodox among
the Jewish faith maintains certain dress modes that
seem to defy modern standards. Adult males almost always are bearded and
wear
long, dark outer garments, along with white dress shirts
and scull caps, called yarmulkas. Adult females also eschew colorful
clothes, wearing
long dresses modestly decorated with perhaps simple
uni-colored stripes.
The Hasidim are certainly entitled to their
traditions and beliefs, but it always has astounded
me as to how they can wear such outfits on warm summer
days. I guess that strong religious faith can
override any desire for creature
comforts.
I relied exclusively on my camera's zoom telephoto
feature because many Hasidim do not like being photographed.
