If you see great herons (blue or white) often, you may begin recognize differences.  The "Great Egret" (also known as "Great White Egret") is the largest heron next to the Great Blue Heron.  The "Snow Egret" which looks similar to the great egret is smaller and has a black bill, legs, and yellow feet, while the great egret has black legs and feet with a yellow bill.  The snowy egret was almost hunted to extinction because of it's plumage.

Nice shot. We occasionally see these in Westchester County, NY. At least I think it's the same type of bird.
