I know what I'm going to write
below will seem "elementary" to some of the professionals and long time 3D
experts in this group. But, my hope is that it might inspire a few of the
members to "give it a try" themselves and put some 3D photo or photos on their
walls, after they have the "permission" of their wife or husband or course, and
my hope is that they will perhaps think of the person who suggested this to them
when they look at the photo on the wall.
I have been trying for
several days to take one of my "better" 3D Photos... make an anaglyph out of
it.... printing it as a 16X20 print at Costco for about $6.00...with the final
goal of the plan to hang the anaglyph 3D photo on one of my walls in my
house. The
"hang up" has been that my first anaglyph was TOO
DARD....the secone anaglyph was TOO LIGHT...but today I edited it again using
Picasa editing...and came out with one that was "right on" as far as the
exposure or "density" of the print.
I have quite a few 2D large
prints on my walls now. I LOVE to put them on a wall where I can see them
and enjoy them EVERYDAY. Plus, when visitors drop by I can show the photos
to them and sometimes receive a "positive energy" "atta boy" type of
reply.....or, with some fellow photography hobbyists, I might receive an envious
look as if to say, "Gee, I wish I had a photo like that in my house.".....or
that's the attitude I project from my mind to their mind because, of course, I
can't read anyone elses mind.
What I learned was that
the anaglyph can be "too dark"...or "too light" both of which mistakes I
made. But, since the cost of the 16X20 at Costco was only $6.00, the cost
of these mistakes was minimal. BUT NOW I HAVE A PERFECTLY EXPOSED VERSION
AS OF TODAY! What I'm going to do is to have the 16X20 print mounted on white
cardboard...then have "stretcher bars" glued to the back to keep the board flat
and keep it from bending...attach screws to the back with a wire between them to
hang the frameless photo on a wall using a nail in the wall. Then, have a
plastic pair of red/cyan glasses available near the photo with which to view the
anaglyph... to hand to visitors so they can view the photo in 3D...AND MARVEL AT
THE SOPHISTICATION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER WHO MADE THAT PHOTO!!!...or at least
that's my hope!
I write this just in case someone else might be
interested in decorating their walls with a 3D photo...or perhaps has done
something similar themselves....or maybe they know of "a better way" to do
it. I am also looking into lenticluar 16X20 posters....as another
possibility. The benefit of the lenticulars is that you don't need any
glasses to see the 3D photo. I saw a 3D lenticular at my local Michelin
Tire Store this week...with "The Michelan Man" dressed in white THROWING TIRES
AT THE VIEWER...wow...I thought that was very good! There are some
"lighted from the back" picture frames worth looking into also.
All
questions and comments about this project or other suggestions will be very
welcome. Thanks. John Boland, Thousand Oaks,
