I changed some properties to keep the file size below 600kb.  Some variables that affect file size are the image dimensions, and color.  The color ranges are... Full colors (Gif -> 256 colors), 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2.  The smaller the color number, the smaller the file size.  The end quality is of course proportional to the color number chosen, therefore if you desire the best quality, you my need to sacrifice the dimensional size or you can compromise between both to get the file size under the group's requirements.
