Third Annual Marshall Rubin International Photo Contest
Part Three
Probably by now you've already skipped
down to see who took First Place in the Photo Contest, so why waste
time? The top honors go J.L. Rea, whom we all know better as
our
dear friend from Australia, Jay!
WHAT I LIKE: A very popular subject
for posting by the members of the Anaglyphs Group is that of
statuary. Thanks to the many of fine stereo views that
have been shown from around
the world we have delved into the
cultures and histories of loads of nations and even local
restaurants. All this is good, but most have something in
common. In stereo the statues
look exceedingly real. No, they
don't seem to turn into flesh and bones and take on an aura of being
alive. Instead they look like REAL, stone-cold statues, with their
textured
surfaces, exquisite details, and
hard-edged shadows.
Jay's view, while also depicting
statues, is a lot different. It's obvious that Jay wasn't looking
to accurately record some cute, kitschy lawn decorations. Instead
she envisioned living,
thinking nymphs. Her goal was to
truly bring them to life! And what better way to do this than to
have them speak to each other in surroundings that we as the viewers
could
easily relate to, no mater where on Earth
we might be from?
But these winged creatures not only TALK
but show that they have a sense of humor, employing a PUN, of
all things. Imagine..statues that know how to joke
around!
For, just as the wings of angels can lift
themselves into the stratosphere, a gentle, poignant, yet FUNNY stereo
view can lift high our souls as well. This view
transported
me away from wars and natural disasters
to a calmer, gentler place.
When I posted the Contest rules I made note of just what I was looking for,
and this view came through, all the way!!! We have a great stereo
view, a wonderful Title, and
a stupendous Description (with no
spelling or grammatical errors).
It makes me both deeply humble and proud
to award the Wacom Bamboo pen and tablet to Jay Rea, the First Place
winner.
I wish to thank all who participated and
hopefully look forward to an even bigger and better Photo Contest next
year!.
