The Central Synagogue, also known as the Lexington Avenue Synagogue, located at 55th St. and Lexington Avenue, was built in 1872 in the Moorish Revival style as a copy of Budapest's Dohany Street Synagogue. It has been in continuous use by a congregation longer that any other in the city. Among the oldest synagogue buildings in the U.S., it was designated a national landmark in 1975. Restored after a fire in 1998, it is open to the public for tours on a weekly schedule. Olympus FE-5010, cha-cha, PS.
