Hi

this is an illustration from a book "Très Riches Heures du Duc Jean de
Berry" printed in the year 1410.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tr%C3%A8s_Riches_Heures_du_Duc_de_Berry

The painter "Hennequin und Herman von" is German but is only an executor,
the project is from de Berry.

The original image is here.

The image represent a map of the sensible points.
.
Each point is a realy and existing building(of course in the year1400).
The method proposed is genial, intricate but easy to understand.
To know the effect which flows from the managet point you search the
information about the building. For example the symbol of the city, the name
of the church, the name or the history of the saint patron, ecc.

In any case for my opinion this type of information you have also from many
authors. The many important thing of this map is the ways to enter in the
circle and also you have well draw a barrier that should not be surpassed.

As you know can be difficult or dangerous enter from an unauthorized road.

To see the image I suggest to zoom 200%

Ciao
Guglielmo
