Lime Kiln Point State Park
The Park and surrounding area contain an old limestone quarry and ruins of lime kilns.
These were operated for about 90 years beginning in 1860.
A reconstructed lime kiln is shown. Limestone pieces were brought down from the quarry, and loaded into
the main chamber from the top of the kiln. An inner fire box was fueled by wood, obtained from the surrounding
forest. 20 tons of limestone were transformed into 9 tons of lime.
