In June 2006 flood waters poured into our basement, but
aside from the loss of many of my film-based stereos,
we sustained little damage. Even that would not
have occurred had it not been for the nearby town having shut
down our electricity, causing our basement flood pump to
stop working.
I learned my lesson, and soon I purchased a
propane-driven outdoor generator that automatically starts up the
moment
there's an electricity cut-off. So far the
generator has saved us from such a fate on two occasions, providing power to
us,
while much of the surrounding area was in a state of a
blackout.
