Phoenicia, New York is a tiny village located in Ulster
County, about a 1-1/2 hour's northeast drive from
my home in the adjacent Sullivan County. The
village, nestled in the upper Catskills derives much of its
economy from tourists who flock the area in the summer
months. There are abundant streams for fishing
and white water tubing, as well as a local scenic
railroad.
Within the town limits are fine outdoor-indoor
restaurants, splendid cottages, and boutiques. A few weeks
ago Marge and I made an afternoon visit, where we walked
the lovely streets, ate a hearty lunch and enjoyed
the ambiance.
The town attracts many motorcyclists and other joy
riders as seen here on the main street.
