I second Brian's comment: very eloquently stated.

I, too, agree that rigid mandates and a strict adherence to "established' rules greatly limits free expression, and narrows the scope of creativity.

I am personally very happy that I'M not a person who is a slave to the conventions listed above.

Everyone has their own perspective.  There are no criteria for what MUST be included in any form of expression.  For me, the wonder of photography is when I see an image that presents a view (angle, subject, composition, color, concept, focus, life experience, context and, with 3D, the use of depth) that makes me see something in a way I otherwise may never have imagined.  If everyone approached creative expression the same way, with the same perspective and assumptions, there would be no art, nothing to take my breath away, to give me new insight, to broader my understanding of this marvelous existence we call life.

I tire of those with rigid mandates when it comes to any kind of expression.  Indeed, I feel sorry for them, for it is only through the exchange of genuine, personal expression -- whether it is art, a personal truth, one's view of the world, the meaning of life or even the way to tie one's shoes -- that we come into a fuller experience and appreciation of life beyond our limited experience.  And, no offense Marshall, but if you think that a person's rear end can be perceived only as a waste eliminator, I urge you to photographically explore the human form -- from gnarled toe to expressive lips, from anus to silky, tumbling mane -- for the ravishing beauty that god made it to be.

For me, I say: Show me the world through your eyes and, in learning how/allowing yourself to do so, may you discover the beautiful uniqueness of your own soul.

I will answer to your letter later but now I must underline only that usually I don't take portraits here.. I take general 3D pictures from the forms and volumes which I need to complete my idea and compositions.
Sometimes the persons in my pictures are not that subject that you are used to recognize soon and easily as a person as you want! Their loss become their surreal and magic presence and that's what I am searching for and that's the main reason why I continue to take my 3D images.. I invite you to study the meaning and historical path of Art and in particular the modern Art. There are more than 500 years of distance between Leonardo and Magritte (just to offer one example) and the evolution continues and don't forget that Leonardo's MonaLisa, ( thank you for your hyper compare..:-) is only a Portrait Marshall and will remain as a portrait of MonaLisa forever.
I add some Magritte's masterpieces paintings here to strangthen what I tried to explain.
cheers,
Dariush

Dariush--

Just imagine if DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa from behind.  Do you think his painting would now be hanging in the Louvre?  :- )

But seriously, the most expressive and individually unique part of the human anatomy is the face.  Mother Nature decided that the face
was to be so important that she placed our mouths there for eating and verbally communicating.  She placed our eyes and brows on the face so that we could see
where we're going.  She placed our noses there so that we could smell what's before us.  She made our faces the most reliable part of the body for
personal recognition by others.  All those features can be contorted, yielding a wealth of expressive possibilities.

The second-most expressive area is in the hands, again conveniently located in front.

Rear ends are mainly for excreting waste and sitting down, neither of which tells us much about what people are doing or even thinking.
It's okay to show people from the rear every now and then, but when you do, they are sometimes being robbed of their uniqueness.
At times rear-end views are more demeaning than "artistic."

I suspect that the main reason you take to photographing from the rear is that you're a bit skittish about trying to grab a candid from the front.
It admittedly can be risky because we never know how a subject will react if he/she knows of being shot without permission.  There could be
consequences that are scary, so it's natural to shy away.  It just comes down to whether one wants to take a chance at grabbing a great shot, or would rather
play it safe!

I don't mean for what I'm saying to be a put-down.  You might practice in front of a mirror to gain skills and confidence for shooting in such a way as
to be unnoticeable, where you don't have to bring your viewfinder up to your eyes.

Finally, I don't think your from-behind shots are bad, but if we could see some candid faces and rich expressions, in my knowing of your excellent
capabilities probably many of your shots would be spectacular!

I guess that you are used to the ordinary approach with the photographic image Marshall. In you mind the back-side of the humans has no form and character  probebly because there is no eyes, mouth and nose..., so don't deserve to be photographed.. but as you know I consider the back part of the humans so interesting and intriguing. It say a lot about the person and I can't forget that one of the main erotic parts of man-woman is hidden right there, of course not always and in any person...!
ciao,
Dariush

The male's head is just a bit too close to the SW.  It's probably just me, but I relate better to human faces, rather than rear-ends.
