As far as the image distance...  In certain environments such as this one at Cancun Cantina, perfect conditions are not always feasible and one must compromise to some degree.  I've always said, 3D stereo is full of compromises.  With that said... through experience and the 1/30th guide rule (about the limits of my mathematical aptitude), I estimate the distance to the NPO for the fixed stereo base of the W1 and hope it falls within an acceptable range.  With the varied subjective preferences of our members (and less critical non-stereoscopy viewing friends and aquaintences), I don't believe you need to be perfect but be within a general acceptable range that most will feel comfortable viewing.
