I?m curious what the standard approach could be. Is the sync so bad? If you?re exposing light sensitive sensor for too long it may degrade its properties.

I figure the degree of shutter sync I can achieve might be affected by camera-to-camera variability in mirror lock-up time. The Canon SL1 lets one lock up the mirror, then independently operate the shutter at some later time. I haven't yet proved the theory to myself. In these particular photos the squirrel sat still.
