It looks as though someone has removed the spear in the statue?

Also I've noticed this kind of theme is present in many other statues as well but perhaps don't have the fame of St. George. The animal may be different than a dragon but is usually being or about to be slain by the primary figure.

Here's one (of several) similar themed statues I found at the steps of a museum in Philadelphia Pennsylvania (US).
