Subject: [Anaglyphs] New Rig

I took a couple of days off from making phantograms to put together a "new" twin rig. I had a seven year old Kodak DC4800 3.1mp that has been used for zillions of cha cha shots, and I found the same model camera for $17 on Ebay, a lot less than I paid for the first one seven years ago. I had some aluminum scrap sitting around, and bought some 1/4" hardware to go with it. A little time with a hacksaw and drill press yielded two identical bars with 1/4" holes in them matching the tripod mount spacing needed to align the lenses, in this case 1 7/8" between the holes when the bars are together. I put wingnuts on the bolts that hold the two bars together so I can quickly take them apart. I still need to put a thin rubber sheet between the cameras and bars to secure them from rotating. Since the bars cover the buttons that eject the memory cards I had to cut out an access hole and make a simple wire tool to eject the cards. I have to take off one wingnut and "scissor" open the bars to use that hole. I'm making an angle bracket that will let me tripod mount the rig. With a 2.5" base, this rig will be used for relatively close up portrait shots. I'll stick to the DiMage rig with the 5" base for longer shots.

With some careful shopping on Ebay anyone should be able to put together a similar rig for less than $50US.

This is only temporary, I plan to tear the cameras apart and rearrange parts, and wire the shutters together, ending up with a completely different rig in a new case.
