And the winner of my little photo contest
is...Larry Robert Fischer for his work entitled, "Atomic Food." Here Larry
uses stereo for one of its most
noble purposes--to make valid social
commentary. In describing his entry Larry says of "Atomic Food," With all
the crap they are putting in our food
today, the preservatives, the additives, etc. I
think they are killing us."
From a technical standpoint the view provides all
the elements that go into a good view: proper alignment, minimal, if
any ghosting, proper window placement*.
The eating utensils, some might say are not totally
sharp, but I think that the intent is to make them appear less palatable, due to
the "crap" that they
help serve up.
Depth is good, without exaggeration, providing the
classic three-levels, or more.
There are some special effects that under many
circumstances might seem like gimmicks, but here they work well. That
jagged frame helps to accentuate
the less pleasant aspect of the subject matter,
while that hazy purplish background isolates the plate and
utensils.
*In this view the plate arises from the stereo
window, but doesn't violate it. The "food" takes on a surreal purplish
glow. Had the food been depicted as a bright
yellow entity, it would have more conformed to
our usual concept of an atomic glow. But originality takes
center stage as we instead get to see, through the
more muted bluish casts, radiation as a "cold" concept.
Deceptively simple, this view shows that a lot of
thought and preparation went into it, providing not only a great viewing
experince, but one that provokes
as well as entertains. For this I award Larry
the prize of a brand-new copy of Photoshop Elemnts 6.
